Originally from Orlando, Yamilet Trujillo has been performing in the Central Florida area for over 10 years. After recently receiving her Bachelors degree from UCF in Cello Performance, she is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Music and performs with the UCF Symphony Orchestra as the principal cellist. She also enjoys teaching music lessons, playing in weddings, playing piano, and singing.
With a family full of musicians, Yamilet believes that her love of music was inherited. Just like her uncle, a flautist with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Cali in Colombia, she hopes to someday travel with an orchestra around the world. She also dreams of playing for a movie soundtrack.
What is your favorite aspect about being a musician? My favorite aspect of being a musician is that I never feel like I am working, which is the best feeling in the world! The manager (director, Aaron Collins) is always great to work with, and company meetings (rehearsals) are never boring!
Which composers most inspire you? My favorite composers are Brahms, John Williams, and local composer, Robert Kerr.
What is your favorite recording(s)? After playing this moving piece with the Dr. Phillips High School Orchestra, her absolute favorite recording is Mahler's "Adagietto" from his 1st Symphony, performed by the expressive Leonard Bernstein and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
What piece are you looking forward to most in the SCSO's 2010 - 2011 Season? I am very excited to play Rodgers and Hammerstein's music, since they were possibly the best songwriting duo in the history of Broadway music! I know I will be singing along to the Sound of Music songs while playing the cello!
