The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is excited to be teaming up with the wonderfully talented youth musicians of the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra.  The program will feature both orchestras and a special joint performance of works by Copland, Verdi, Mascagni, Enesco, and Holst.  The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present Dmitri Shostakovich’s revolutionary Symphony No. 5. Shostakovich wrote, “The theme of my Fifth Symphony is the making of a man. I saw man with all his experiences in the center of the composition . . . In the finale the tragically tense impulses of the earlier movements are resolved in optimism and joy of living.”

The concert features music 'Made in America'.  The Space Coast Symphony will take part in celebrating Samuel Barber's centenary by performing both his powerful First and Second Essays.  Pianist Jamila Tekalli will join the SCSO a second time this season to present George Gershwin's magical Rhapsody in Blue.  The second half includes a world premiere of Brandon Clinton's Liberty for All, as well as a perennial crowd-pleaser, Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s closes their season with works by Nielsen and Sibelius.  This exquisite concert program features music from Denmark’s greatest composer, Carl Nielsen.  Nielsen's dynamic Helios Overture was inspired by the sight of the sun rising and falling above the Aegean Sea.  The concert closes with the great Jean Sibelius’ poetic Symphony No. 2 in D Major.
