Artistic Director Aaron Collins is a strong believer in the use of multi-media to enhance the concert-going experience. “I grew up with film music and have been passionate about it ever since,” said Collins. “Launching our Night at the Movies Series with Science Fiction classics on 11-11-11 will be a sensory experience for our concertgoers. The movie scores paired with clips from these iconic films will make this a fantastic Friday night out.” The Space Coast Symphony will present the World Premiere of Jerry Goldsmith's Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Cut, a 25 minute suite comprised of cues from the original score. In addition, the orchestra will highlight Alex North's rejected score from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Topping off the evening will be suites from John Williams in E.T and Star Wars.

ABOUT CAREY MOORMAN, VIOLINIST— Mr. Moorman serves as the Principal Second Violinist for the Space Coast Symphony as well as Principal Second Violinist for the Brevard Symphony. He also performs with the Orlando Philharmonic, on occasion serving as acting Principal Second Violinist. Before moving to Florida, Carey Moorman served as Concertmaster with the Pine Bluff Symphony, Assistant Concertmaster with the Fort Smith Symphony, Principal Second Violinist with the Conway Symphony, as well as Tenured Violinist with the Arkansas Symphony, South Arkansas Symphony, the Wildwood Opera Festival, and Pinnacle Players Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Moorman has been First Violinist with the Encore String Quartet, Pinnacle String Quartet, and the Falstaff String Quartet. Mr. Moorman studied with Professor Kevork Mardirossian of Indiana University for four years and earned his degree in Violin Performance. He was selected to perform in Master classes with Jonathan Carney, Concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony and former Concertmaster of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, as well as Yfrah Neaman, famous pedagogue from the United Kingdom. Mr. Moorman has taught multiple violin clinics for the Pine Bluff Orchestra Workshop and is on faculty to coach musicians for the Brevard Chamber Music Seminar. He won first prize in both the Stella Boyle Smith Young Artist Competition and the Little Rock Music Coterie Competition. This marks his second appearance with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Aaron Collins. ABOUT STEPHEN MUMBERT (Playing Harold Hill)— Stephen Mumbert is quickly gaining attention on the concert and opera stage throughout the United States and England. Stephen was recently praised for being “vocally, the most promising singer” and for “possessing an assured and stylish technique” for his interpretation of the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Aldeburgh Festival in England. Stephen is a graduate of Stetson University where he holds a B.M. in voice performance and he also holds an M.M. in opera from The Boston Conservatory. He has participated in the young-artist programs of Bay View Music Festival (Marcello/La Boheme), Seagle Music Colony (Aaron Greenspan/Morning Star), Britten-Pears (Don Giovanni/Don Giovanni, Junius/The Rape of Lucretia), and Fort Worth Opera (Slim/Of Mice and Men, King Melchior/Amahl and the Night Visitors). Most recently Stephen was seen with Opera Naples performing the roles of Morales in Bizet’s Carmen and King Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Upcoming performances include Handel’s Messiah and Finzi’s In Terra Pax with the newly formed Symphonic Chorale of South West Florida, a return to the South West Florida Symphony and Chorus for Mozart’s Coronation Mass and the role of Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte with the University of Minnesota Opera Theater where he is beginning his Doctoral studies. Stephen currently studies voice with John De Haan. ABOUT ELIZA DOPIRA (Playing Marian Paroo)— Soprano Eliza Dopira has been praised for her “vibrant tone” (Cecilia Porter, Washington Post)as well as her “thoughtful phrasing” and “shining work” (Tim Smith, Baltimore Sun). Ms. Dopira is a native of Brevard and daughter to Patrick and Judy Healy. She holds a Bachelor degree in Vocal Performance from Florida State University, and a Masters in Voice and Opera Performance Diploma from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. Eliza has been an apprentice artist and performed opera roles with Sarasota Opera, Lake George Opera of Saratoga Springs, and Washington Summer Opera. An accomplished concert artist, she was chosen to perform in concert with the National Symphony, River Cities Symphony, Bryn Mawr Choral, Johns Hopkins Choral Society and Peabody Symphony Orchestra. Aside from her busy singing career, Eliza leads the Concert Choir and String ensemble at Florida Institute of Technology, and maintains a private voice studio. (Cocoa Village, FL) October 11, 2011 - Aaron Collins and the Space Coast Symphony take a musical trip “across the pond” when they present “A London Symphony” on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:00 PM at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in north Melbourne. The concert opens with Wasps Overture by Vaughan Williams, a work scored for a Cambridge production of the Greek play by Aristophanes. The Space Coast Symphony’s principal second violinist, Carey Moorman, will give the Southeastern U.S. premiere performance of Cecil Forsyth’s Viola Concerto in G minor, a work of extraordinary lyricism and powerful melodies. The concert concludes with Vaughan Williams’ A London Symphony, an affectionate and sometimes elegiac musical portrait of London and its inhabitants in the era that vanished with World War I.
