Space Coast Jazz All Stars celebrate Big Band sound Dec. 17th

(Cocoa Village, FL) December 5, 2011 -- The 20-piece Space Coast Jazz All-Stars will present a holiday jazz concert featuring two iconic Christmas albums at 7:00 PM on Saturday, December 17th at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 2030 North Highway A1A in Indialantic, 32903. “A Stan Kenton Merry Christmas & Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker” will showcase original big band arrangements of holiday classics from the legendary Stan Kenton Christmas album including O Holy Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Angels We Have Heard on High, The Twelve Days of Christmas and more. The 1961 original by progressive jazz legend Stan Kenton is considered by some to include the greatest Christmas Big Band arrangements of all time.  On the second half of the program, Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite transforms Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic into pure jazz expression. $20 advance tickets may be purchased online at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or by calling (321) 536-8580.  Convenient ticket outlets include A Floral Affair in Merritt Island, Art Expressions in Eau Gallie, Blue Sky Insurance in Cocoa Village and Tropical Realty of Suntree. Tickets at the door are an additional $5.  Students 18 years of age and under admitted free.  And for those unable to afford the price of general admission, the new SCSO Symphony for Everyone program will provide discounted tickets to anyone wishing to attend the symphony performance.  See details at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director, Aaron Collins, knows Central Florida jazz fans will turn out for this concert in numbers.  "You've never heard a holiday concert like this,” said Collins.  “We are recreating Stan Kenton’s original album from 1961, complete with original instrumentation.  The wit & energy of these arrangements will make for a great night!  In addition, you'll get to hear Duke Ellington's take on Tchaikovsky's classic, The Nutcracker.”
