Orchestra Performs ‘Opening Night Gala’
Space Coast Symphony begins 3rd Season with bold, dashing opener 9-17
(Merritt Island, FL) September 6, 2011 - Maestro Aaron Collins and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra begin their third performing Season with an “Opening Night Gala” concert Saturday, September 17th at 6:00 PM at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in north Melbourne. The Scott Center auditorium is located off the Pineda Causeway at 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, 32940. Berlioz's bold and dashing Le Corsaire Overture is the perfect concert “curtain-raiser,” detailing the escapades of a pirate. Cellist Michael Wiseman will shine in Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, a musical statement of hope against all odds. The concert closes with Cesar Franck’s richly romantic and heroic Symphony in D minor. $20 advance tickets may be purchased online at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at one of several convenient ticket outlets, including A Floral Affair in Merritt Island, Art Expressions in Eau Gallie, Blue Sky Insurance in Cocoa Village and Tropical Realty of Suntree. Tickets may also be reserved by calling (321) 536-8580. Admission at the door is an additional $5. Students 18 years of age and under admitted free. For those unable to afford the regular price of general admission, the new SCSO Symphony for Everyone program will provide discounted tickets to anyone wishing to attend the symphony performance. See details at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
Artistic Director Aaron Collins can barely believe the young orchestra’s third Season is already upon them.
“Performing with this talented group is such a fun ride,” said Collins. “We have been totally embraced by Brevard concert-goers and the musicians and I can’t wait to perform this exciting season-opener.”
The Opening Night Gala is the first concert of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s recently announced 2011-12 Season; a hugely ambitious and wide-ranging collection of 16 concerts featuring great works from classical and contemporary genres, orchestral masterworks, guest artists from far and near and collaborations with local Performing Arts organizations. ABOUT THE SPACE COAST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA— The SCSO is a lively and passionate Central Florida orchestra comprised of professional musicians and select youth players. The Orchestra was formed with a two-fold mission: to provide mentoring and performance opportunities for Florida’s finest youth musicians as well as to provide professional-level concerts at genuinely affordable prices. The ultimate goal of the organization is to help ensure the symphonic tradition for the enjoyment of future generations.
The symphony performs in several very comfortable venues in Brevard and Indian River counties, with advance general admission tickets priced at just $20. School-aged children 18 years and under are admitted free of charge. In keeping with their mission, the symphony launched the Symphony for Everyone program in 2011, designed to provide substantially discounted admission tickets to any Space Coast Symphony concert.
