Just Say “Da” to Russian Excursions
November 13th all-Russian concert free for students 18 and under

(Merritt Island, FL) November 1, 2010 – The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents “Russian Excursions,” the fourth concert of its 2010-2011 Season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 13th at the First Baptist Church, 140 Magnolia Avenue in Merritt Island.  Conductor Aaron Collins and the 85-piece orchestra will explore the powerful musical landscape of Russian composers Alexander Borodin, Anton Arensky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.  The charming and exotic Arensky's Violin Concerto will be performed by the Space Coast Symphony's own Carey Moorman, principal second violinist for several Central Florida orchestras.  The all-Russian program also features the flaming musical color and soaring melodies of Borodin’s popular Polovtsian Dances.  After intermission, the audience will thrill to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s epic symphonic suite of 1888, Scheherazade, based on tales from “The Arabian Nights.”  Scheherazade provides an opportunity to hear Concertmaster, Igor Markstein and several principal players from the orchestra in solo performance.  $10 tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org, at the offices of Blue Sky Insurance in Cocoa Village and Tropical Realty of Suntree, or by calling (321) 536-8580.  Tickets purchased at the door will be $15; aged 18 and under admitted free.

The Space Coast Symphony’s young conductor, Aaron Collins, knows he has a winner in “Russian Excursions.”

"This program features some of the most popular Russian music ever written,” said Collins.  “I want the Central Florida community to hear our outstanding musicians at their best!  Scheherazade in particular is a showpiece which features musicians from nearly every section in the orchestra.  It's colorful, beautiful, and above all, an extremely powerful work."

Close on the heels of the enormously popular “An Enchanted Evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein Classics,” the “Russian Excursions” concert marks the fourth of eight subscription events planned through March 2011.  The ambitious conductor also plans dozens of ensemble performances throughout Brevard with various musicians from the orchestra.  For more information about the 2010-2011 performing Season or the “Russian Excursions” concert, please visit www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or call (321) 536-8580.
