

Beginning at an early age with piano lessons, Alexander Stevens was attracted to the violin at the age of nine and knew that this was to be his instrument. After studying with Gary Kosloski and Eliot Chapo, he graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Performance from Florida State University. He earned his Masters of Music in 2007 from Northwestern University where he studied with Gerardo Ribeiro and Blair Milton.
He has held the position of Principal Second Violin of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008 and plays extensively around Central Florida with several different orchestras.
What is your favorite aspect about being a musician? My favorite aspect of being a musician is privilege of acting as an intermediary between the composer and the audience. It's as if I get to tell a story about the composer in the form of the divine language of music.
Which composers most inspire you? My biggest inspirations come from Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms.
What is your favorite recording? My favorite recording is the All Night Vigil of Rachmaninov sung by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers.
What piece are you looking forward to most in the SCSO's 2010 - 2011 Season? I am most looking forward to the last concert with the Romeo and Juliet Suite by Prokofiev.
